Hey Bladers! Bey-Tech Jacob here welcoming you to the first Beyblade Breakdown!

Today we're going to be looking at a classic from the very beginning of the Beyblade X basic line, BX-01 Dran Sword 3-60 F! Despite being part of the first set of beys released for Beyblade X Dran Sword is still seeing use in competitions and managing to hold its own against heavier beys like Wizard Rod and Cobalt Dragoon. Let's take a closer look at the parts that make this bey!

Blade - Dran Sword

A 3 point attack type blade capable of smash attacks, using the flat areas on the main contact points that can be lined up with the ratchet to expand the surface area and give a better chance for the bey to land a big smash attack, and upper attacks, using the upward sweeping curves and the tips of the contact point to push under your opponents bey and hit the ratchet and bottom side of the opponents bey.

Ratchet - 3-60

A low height ratchet to help reduce the possibility of bursting from an opponent's attacks with 3 contact points that can line up with the 3 contact points on the dran sword blade to improve smash attacks.

Bit - Flat (F)

An attack type bit that allows for both aggressive flower pattern movements and fast arcing movements to get it on the x rail quickly after launching.

Despite the simplicity of Dran Swords design it is an extremely versatile bey. The stock build of dran sword can be used as a smash attacker by doing what is commonly referred to as a flat launch (done by holding the launcher level with the ground) in order to win by knocking your opponents bey into the KO zones or the extreme finish zone, alternatively you can use the tips of dran swords contact points to do upper attacks and attempt to hit your opponents ratchet in order to get a burst finish.

Making a simple change to Dran Sword by swapping the bit can greatly improve the capabilities of the blade. Swapping to Accel (A), which can be found on UX-01 Dran Buster 1-60 A, your Dran Sword can become a force to recon with by improving the overall power of its smash attacks at the cost of some stamina potential. Alternatively you could swap to a bit like Low Flat (LF), found on BX-14-01 Shark Edge 3-60 LF, which would make it easier to get under your opponents bey and improve the chances of getting a burst finish without losing stamina potential.

Jacob's Recommendation

I've spent a lot of time playing with Dran Sword, as it was the first X bey I purchased and to this day still use it during testing to test defence and stamina types, and I've found that one of the best builds for it is Dran Sword 3-60 GF. By lining up the contact points of Dran Sword and 3-60 you get some fantastic potential for smash attacks, when you throw Gear Flat in the mix it amplifies that potential massively by giving Dran Sword more chances to grip the xtreme rail and accelerate before being thrown towards your opponent. This build is a killer in the current meta that can easily hold its own against common builds like Wizard Rod 9-60 B, though it does take some practice to get used to GF so beginners beware!

That's all for today bladers but be sure to check back soon for one hell of a Beyblade Breakdown!
